Reps pass Electoral Act Amendment Bill despite PDP walkout

The House of Representatives has on Friday, July 16, 2021, passed the Electoral Act Amendment Bill 2021 despite the walkout staged by lawmakers of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) stock.

It was gathered that the Peoples’ Democratic Party, PDP, lawmakers staged a walkout over Clause 52 of the Electoral Act Amendment Bill.

The lawmakers insisted that the clause was never carried in the Electoral Amendment Bill and walked out during a heated plenary on Friday.


Meanwhile, the controversial section 52(3) of the bill which deals with the electronic transmission of election results was stepped down as the lawmakers failed to reach a consensus over the much-debated clause.

Ruling, the Deputy Speaker, Idris Wase stepped down electronic transmission of election results clause.
