If I die today, I die as a happy man – Governor Wike

By Tobi Adebayo

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike has said that he has performed beyond expectations in every part of the state.

Wike said this during the flag-off ceremony of Cancer Diagnostics and Treatment Centre in the Obio-Akpor area of the state.

“This centre will have a doctors’ quarters and a helipad for emergency cases.

“If I die today, I will die as a happy man because I know I have performed very well,” he said.

Wike also hailed a former Governor of the state, Peter Odili, for his contribution towards the development of the state.

He urged the people of the state to pray for Odili and his family.

“This is a man that has contributed to the development of the state. Let me say this loud and clear, but for Odili, an Ikwerre man would have never become a Governor of Rivers state. I challenge anyone to dispute this. People only call him a bad person because he said that an Ikwerre man would become Governor.

“Now that an Ikwerre is the governor of this state, should we not thank Odili? Are we supposed to be the ones that would want to kill him after he helped us? It is not everyone that can stand firm on his grounds when it comes to things like this so we must always be grateful to him,” he said.

The governor further warned the locals not to disturb the contractors that would work on the site of the centre.

“You people must not disturb the contactors. if you disturb them, I will disturb you. Also, the contractors must employ the locals for the execution of this project. They must benefit from this because there are no oil fields to drill in this area,” Wike said.

Present at the flag-off ceremony was the Minister of State for health, Osagie Ehanire, former Rivers State Governor, Peter Odili and several other dignitaries.
